It came in yesterday.
Inside her book. Her work is so unique.
I read every page of this book. It's very interesting, I can almost hear her talking...
Although it is out of my comfort zone I had to give it a try.
Here is my result.
My first 'Janet Bolton style' fabric picture :-)
I'm learning.
It was hard for me to sew/applique the pieces with visible stitches. Not only visible but as Janet teaches: 'the stitches are more attractive for the eye when they are sewn irregular.'
I love to work without any pattern, let it grow under my hands and just listen to the encouraging words of the master, Janet.
This way I can put all my creativity into my needle, thread and fabrics.
It was a pleasure to create this one.
I've already ideas for the next fabric picture :-)

Oh, wat is dit mooi. Het lijken simpele patroontjes maar volgens mij zijn ze dat helemaal niet. Dit soort werkjes moet je toch wat in de vingers krijgen. Jij bent in ieder geval met brio geslaagd. Ontroerend mooi!!!

Wat een leuk tafereel zo op het doek. Het lijkt een klein schilderij zo. Erg mooi en inspirerend ook, juist omdat je uit je comfortzone gaat.

I love your little quilt! :) It is happy. This would definitely be out of my comfort zone also. Although, I remember that a long time ago, I made mini quilts for Christmas in much the same fashion with primitive angels "appliquéd" on top. I looked at this book on Amazon and could "look Inside" to preview it. Love it's simplicity. Will probably order it. Thanks for the post! :)
I just recently found her 1st book, "My Grandmother's Patchwork Quilt". Which have blocks just like these. Looks like the apple didn't fall far from the tree. And then I read through her 2nd book, "Patchwork Folk Art". It's been fun doing blocks with my grandchildren as the characters. These blocks will show up as little surprises in their next quilts. I had so much fun with these. And I love your precious little girl and the flowers. And yes the imperfections and simplicity is what I find so appealing. It gives them "another era" kind of quality. So off the beaten path. As always such a pleasure to get a new post from you.

Lovely work, it is a calm photo in fabric. I remember her first book which thankfully I still have. I love her work.
Erg goed gelukt! Leuk hoor om zoiets te maken. Ik heb haar nieuwste boek niet. Wel een paar andere. Ik blijf er ook geregeld in kijken en maakte ooit twee schilderijtjes, lang geleden. Dank voor eht laten zien van je werkje en haar nieuwe boek.

I've never heard of Janet Bolton, but I have her book on the way from Amazon! I love this type of applique. Your little "picture" is charming. I found your blog awhile back, and enjoy seeing your projects as I knit and crochet and quilt everyday. I live in Indiana, USA.
I have two of Janet Bolton's books. Just love her style! I have put together two backgrounds, but haven't decided What to put on them. Love your girl with flowers. Wonder if Guinea pigs would be possible as subjects? Enjoyed your post!
