Texas in B&W

Texas in B&W.
We've been here a few weeks ago and drove trough Dallas, Austin and a lot of small villages with their nice looking 'main streets'.

At the Ranch of Doniene and Mike. It was a highlight to visit them again.

I found some really nice treasures like this stitchery. It is made in the 30's in Free Stone TX, by the mom of the lady who sold me this. I love it and it has found a nice place in my sewing room.

I had to bring this China Shepherdess home with me. It reminds me so much of the China Shepherdess in the books of The Little House by Laura Ingalls Wilder.  It was the only fancy thing from Laura's mom and Ma placed it carefully at the chimney shelf in every house they lived in.

Love these antique blocks. Yes I brought them home too. They inspire me :-)

Knitted bear and mini

Last week I knitted this beer from left overs of this sweater.
I used a pattern from the book 'The knitted Bear by Sandra Polley'
Today I made this mini quilt for him. Each square is about 1/2".
I know someone who would be happy with this bear and miniquilt :-)

V-stitch blanket, finish

A few weeks ago I finished this V-stitch blanket. From the first stitch to the last one it was  such a pleasure to make.  It took me  just one month to finish!

I mostly used merino yarn. It is soft, warm and nice to work with.

My DD2 loves it.

These dolls and bunny are sleeping with her since I made them for her about 21 years ago. Time flies.

Pattern:      V-stitch
Yarn:          Drops merino extra fine, Katia Basic, Katia 100% merino, Rico essentials, Lana grossa
                   cool wool, Annell Malmedy
Hook size: 4mm

Kingfisher

I'm so happy I spotted this kingfisher today.  I waited 1 1/2 hour  for it
(and even sat in the nettles )

Repost

(pictures of these quilt are made in 2008)

A few days ago I received an email from Penny. She asked me about a quilt she remembered from my first blog.  I made this quilt years ago. Actually it was in 2008! (time flies..)  Well here you go Penny.
I was inspired by the quilt Potluck from the book Save the Scraps by Gayle Bong.
This is my version. I used leftover triangles for the top and the bottom and for the backing. I enjoyed making this quilt very much.  I re- calculated my blocks from inch to cm. But I think they are almost the same size as the blocks in the book.  I hope these pictures helps you to make your version with your friend.

ps.  I'm happy that the big tits are making their nest in my garden again.
 It's spring!

Inspired by Janet Bolton

I think I've all books of Janet Bolton.
Somehow her work fascinates me.  This is her latest book.
It came in yesterday.

Inside her book. Her work is so unique.

I read every page of this book. It's very interesting, I can almost hear her talking...
Although it is out of my comfort zone I had to give it a try.

Here is my result.

My first 'Janet Bolton style' fabric picture :-)

I'm learning.
It was hard for me to sew/applique the pieces with visible stitches. Not only visible but as Janet teaches: 'the stitches are more attractive for the eye when they are sewn irregular.'

I love to work without any pattern, let it grow under my hands and just listen to the encouraging words of the master, Janet.
This way I can put all my creativity into my needle, thread and fabrics.

It was a pleasure to create this one.
I've already ideas for the next fabric picture :-)

Red fox and a finished quilt

A finish!
I started this quilt back in 2008.
It was a long time an UFO.
I was inspired by a quilt in the book Passing on the Comfort by Ann Keuning-Tichelaar
I made a calculate mistake for the blocks. So they became big... very big. Anyway I like it.
It reminds me to a quilt on a farm or in a house in the Big Woods of Laura Ingalls.
This quilt will be used on our bed.

Today I went to the dunes for a nice picture of the quilt and then this fox came along.
It was an amazing meeting :-)
