Fabrics and a new quilt

What was I thinking years ago when I bought all these fabrics?
(believe me this is just a part of what I have)

Now, years later I found out that I can't sew them up.
Fabrics are similar to fashion, it comes and goes. Some are timeless and some are old fashioned.

So let's start a new project and who knows I may get room for new fabrics.

As you can see I'm inspired by this picture of a quilt in the book:

I have given away many, many fabric pieces that are out-dated and some I wish I had kept.

I have so much fabric too and will never be able to use it all! Though I can't get rid if it, like fashions it comes back around ;-}. Your blocks are beautiful!

I think we've all bought and sat on fabrics for years and then look at them trying to figure out what to do with them. I was in a shop recently where the owner said that you should only sew with fabric that you love and give what you don't love so much to someone who will enjoy it, but sometimes you just have to start sewing with them and it's amazing how much they still appeal to you. It looks like you are off to a great start.

Just look at those perfect points!!
All hobbyists collect far more "stuff" than they need. Knitters.......how many jumpers were we going to knit with all that wool. Artists......paint and brushes, embroiderers ......cottons in every shade imaginable. It goes on and on. And it's not just women. What my husband has in his shed is unbelievable and he is convinced he is going to use everything one day. Ha ha, he better hurry up as he is 70.

You blocks are great. I have been collecting fabric for 50 years..I cannot give anything away. It is true that when I need it, I would hate for it to be gone. When I die I want my friends to say...My, how she loved her fabric collection..

this post made me laugh, I'm in the same position as you and i know quite well that i can never ever use up my whole collection of fabric , nor even the scraps.... and i cannot resist more.i showed part of my cupboard stash on ig the other day much to everyone else's pleasure and i have decided that i will treat it like any other household treasure and just delight in it !
asa you say .there are some that i don't think i will ever use , so as I'm getting a bigger cupboard i'll have a mini clear out too.
love your new blocks , look forward to the rest of it too.
enjoy your treasure xx

I recently was looking for something in my sewing room and gasped because of all the fabric I was sorting through. I, too, decided to just use some of it up. So I grabbed some scraps and some random fat quarters and just cut and sewed to my hearts content. I now have a really cute scrappy camp quilt. I still need to figure out what to do with the borders (pieced or strips of fabric). Regardless, I don't know when I've enjoyed putting a quilt top together more. You blocks are great, I love the blue with the brown.

What lovely blocks. I adore Edith's work. Her paintings are wonderful as well. I look forward to seeing the completed project. As for your fabric collection, I have come to the realization that I will never live long enough to use all of my fabric. Somehow, that does not stop me from buying a great piece when I see it. Thanks for sharing such beautiful photos.

I think we all might have this problem!! I'm trying to incorporate some of the older fabrics with my new ones, and those I really can't I'm making up into pieced backings. Your blocks are very sweet!

I live by the motto " Who dies with the most fabric, wins!" I love my fabric collection. I do share some with my niece who is learning to sew. She is very appreciative. My fabric is to me like someone who collects fine art.

Lucy, when you winter your geraniums and fucshia in the attic do you water them? I saw the photo on your other blog and wondered how you do this. I must tell you that I love your quilts and knitting, you are an inspiration, such sweet and simple stitching. I have ivy geraniums in my potting shed but cannot leave them out in our winter, too cold. Thank you for all your beautiful photos. Judy
